Q: Does this tool send my text to a server?
A: No. All counting runs in client-side JavaScript in your own browser — your text is never uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere.
Q: Why is the word count different from the character count for Chinese text, and why does byte size matter?
A: Word count splits text on whitespace, which works for English but not Chinese (no spaces between words) — use character count instead for CJK text. Byte size (UTF-8) matters for developers because a single CJK character or emoji can take 3-4 bytes, which is what actually counts against database column length limits such as MySQL's utf8mb4 VARCHAR.
