What Is My IP / IP Lookup
A browser has no way to know its own public IP address, and GeoIP lookups require reading a database file that only our server can read. The IP address you look up here is used only to compute the result below — it is never logged, stored, or written to a database.

FAQ
Q: Why does this tool need to talk to your server, unlike your fully client-side tools?
A: Two reasons. First, a browser has no built-in way to know its own public-facing IP address — only the server sees that, from the incoming connection. Second, looking up GeoIP data requires reading the MaxMind GeoLite2 .mmdb database, which only has a PHP reader on our server, not a browser equivalent. The IP you look up is used only to compute the response and is never logged or stored.
Q: Why do some IP addresses show blank city, postal code, or region fields?
A: MaxMind's free GeoLite2 database is less precise than their paid GeoIP2 database, and some IP ranges (large cloud providers, anycast addresses, mobile carriers) are only resolvable down to the country or region level. Private/reserved IP ranges (like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) have no public geolocation at all, since they're not routable on the public internet.
